​ My name is Janean Ranis.

 

I received my college education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where I double majored in History and Broadfield Social Studies. I graduated with a degree in Education and obtained my Master’s in Administration in May 2017, with concentrations in Principalship and Curriculum Instruction, alongside an Alternative Education certification. I have lived in and visited many places outside of the United States.

 

I have been a teacher since 1994, either full-time or part-time, in the La Crosse area. I hold multiple Wisconsin Social Studies certifications for grades 6-12, including History (U.S. and World), Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Government, and Political Science. I also possess a Technical College Instructors License.

 

My personal life has greatly influenced my professional journey. I have been married for over 25 years and have five children. My husband, Tim, is a special education teacher at Holmen High School and has spent 20 years in the National Guard. Our children’s educational paths have been varied; two are currently in graduate school, one is in college, and two are in high school. At one time, four of our children were enrolled in CAVE before they transitioned into brick and mortar high school due to their desire to compete in WIAA sports. Before this, I was their teacher for many years while teaching part-time at Western Technical College.

 

We have participated in 4-H, sewing, canning, cooking, drama, woodworking, electronics, and archery/pellet gun activities. Additionally, our children were involved in the YMCA swim team and represented the Holmen High School swim team; one even competed at Nationals for their college.

 

I currently teach online social studies classes through WEN, Odysseyware, and Project Based Social Studies for grades 6-12. I enjoy my summers by reading, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, traveling, and watching campfires.
